I don’t know how my brother and SIL deal with it. 3 kids, oldest being 7, with a 4th anticipated in June.
Well, my brother’s a deputy so he’s out of the house but...my poor SIL....

That was unexpected. For those tempted to turn the volume up... don’t.

The awful thing about people with guitars and banjos, is they often take them with them.
Going to see a friend, have a yarn, knock back some food and drink, generally just catch up and chill, but there’s that occasional time when you turn up at their house , as you walk into the living room, you glance a guitar or banjo, your friend and host says, ‘this is my friend Tony, he plays the guitar and has brought it with him!’. Me in my head, ‘I clea n cars, I didn’t bring my f**king car stuff with me!’, ‘oh shit, he’s going to play it at some point’ . You think for a second as your smiling at Tony, how the hell do you get out of this, quick, make up an excuse to leave sooner or when you go to use the toilet, text someone to phone you. Your British, the thought of spontaneous singing fills you with dread, unless it’s ‘war, was is it good for’, ‘oh oh oh oooohh, everybody is kung foo fighting’, livin on a prayer, I gotta feeling, hello, etc...

T his sums up our experience with remote learning too. My A student is getting no credit for one of her classes this quarter.

Hey, I’m learning the ukelele!
My 6 year old gave up on it, and I picked it up during quarantine. I can kinda pick through Octopus’s Garden in the beginner book, and that fee ls really neat.

We had some issues as well. The school had so many problems with kids not performing that they created study halls where kids could go to school and get supervision/assistance while they worked on their schoolwork. Social distancing and masks were required. There was no lunch service , so they only had half a day. My own son had 10 unexcused absences because he kept forgetting to log into the system before going to the study hall. By the time he got there, the login window was closed and he was marked tardy. Two tardies made for an unexcused absence. You can say that I was more than a little angry about that one.

We have discovered the hard way that you cannot take what the child has stated they have done at face value. We have to double check everything. This has been a shit show. I would prefer that they just cancel school and start 1 month early.

One of our friends is a teacher. She told us that a final decision hasn’t been made, but all teachers in their district should be prepared to teach classes online in the fall.
That is bad news for everybody - the teachers, the parents, and the kids.

I’ll have to practice, the lyrics seem quite complex.
